Back to put it in motion…

I am back to WoW and will once again be fulling supporting CoehlUI in Coehl’s absence. I will be happy to help with any questions or issues you are all having.

I will soon be going over the more recent comments here and helping as I can.

I am running CoehlUI again after patch 4.0.1 and it is still running great after updating addons.  With the exception of ForteXorcist this addon is hurting bad. The author knows and is working to correct it.   I have personally disabled it because it reports constant errors to bugrabber and does not do as I intend it to yet.   My druid healer sure does miss it :(

Happy modding to you all, see you on the boards!

Guild Wars 2, CoehlUI, and Apologies

You could say I got quite distracted. I grew a bit complacent as well, as my good man Lifelace had become so incredibly helpful with the UI, this feeling in the back of my mind hit me a few months ago that all was well here for CoehlUI.

And I needed to see things this way. Work was slowing down, finances weren’t awful, but looking tighter than usual, and CoehlUI wasn’t worth the huge amounts of time but $5 from one very generous fellow. You know who you are, sir. Thank you. :)

So yeah, I completely forgot about WoW and the UI in general. I had a pretty huge swap of lifestyle and started in on the promotion of, investment, and pure fanboyishness of the upcoming Guild Wars 2. Even going so far as to start a podcast about that game, which is now going so strong (the listenership is very high), that well, I forgot about this UI. Just about entirely.

I recently came back and discovered that the forums here were slammed with spam, which I’ve cleaned, and forgot that Lifelace, who is now one of my best of chums, had forgotten about this place as well, and so, well, things turned crappy. I can’t even begin to catch up with what’s happened on the forums. Especially considering I’m really not the WoW fan I once was.

So can we promise that CoehlUI will be a strong and supported UI for Cataclysm? No, I certainly can’t. It’s more likely I will be invested in Guild Wars 2. But I am entirely, completely open to helping someone out that wants to keep this UI alive. Whatever I’ve got in this UI, even artwork and PSD files, they are freely given to whomever wants it. Just email me at coehlauth@gmail.com.

But also, if this does not happen and the UI dies, I highly recommend users of my UI check out LUI. That guy is such a pro. Seriously. Sure the layout is different, but a little mental flex never hurt anyone, and his UI flow is very efficient. That UI is so incredibly easy to set up and use.

And for anyone that cares to know where my new podcast and interests are, just check out my personal site and my Guild Wars 2 podcast site.

I appreciate your support, and you guys have been such a good user base. I mean that very seriously, as I expected this project to make me feel like the internet was a seething bath of hatred. Instead, you were a very supportive and fun lot of people.

CoehlUI 2.2

For those that have updated this UI’s AddOns, there’s really nothing new to see here. 2.2 is simply an update to allow new users to have functionality out of the box. I am aware that I was late in doing this. CoehlUI is quite popular and that in itself is incentive enough to always keep at it, but punctuality might be questionable when my other projects are turning substantially more.. lucrative. Hehe.

Anyway, I’ll try not to let such a long lapse of time happen again where AddOns are outdated.

If you want to know what project it is that’s pwning my UI so hard, have a look.

Version 2.1, Omen and Quartz Fixes

Version 2.1 is now uploaded. It has the newest version of each AddOn and has them working with the UI. Omen was also fixed so that the tabbing system plays nicely again (WOOT I GOT MY STANCEBAR BACK!). You can thank Spootain from our forums for that fix.

I understand a lot of people just got 2.0, so this might seem a problem to go and get this new UI and all that. So here’s the run down on an update, instead of a completely new install. Keep in mind that if you did extensive adjustments to 2.0, you are subject to problems with this method:

You’ll need to replace everything in the Interface/AddOns/ from the 2.1 ZIP file . This will not adjust settings that you, personally, made to the UI. Those settings are in the WTF folder.

Now, in WTF/Accounts/ACCOUNTNAME/SavedVariables you will need to do the following:

Delete ClassColors.lua files. They’re of no use to you. Copy the .lua files from the .zip file that I indicate here:

Fortress, KgPanels, Omen, Recount, PitBull4, Quartz, TipTac

If you do this and restart the game, just type /reflux copy coehlui(and whatever your resolution quotient was, such as 1.24, 1.33, etc.)

Feeling Creative, Punk?

Photoshop Document for CoehlUI ScreenshotFeel like tailoring this UI’s art a little bit? I won’t stand in your way.

Here’s the photoshop document I had for the mockup.

It would be cool to see the sorts of things people come up with using this file, and who knows what kind of inspiration could come from it eh? Please show us what you’ve done on the forums once you get finished. I would love to see it.

For additional information regarding using KgPanels and all that jazz, please see the KgPanels wiki. I’ve got my hands very full with the UI alone, so this is for the photoshop and GIMP savvy people out there. I will not answer questions like “How do I import art into Kg with transparent backgrounds?” and the like. It’s all on Kagaro’s wiki.

Enjoy yourselves.

Podcasting with Coehl

I failed to mention this in earlier times because I wasn’t sure of a few factors. For starters, right after the plug on The Instance, I got a lot of whispers in game about the UI and wasn’t sure how it would fare if I told everyone that some friends and I are doing a podcast too. But that simmered down fast, so I think I’m cool with talking about it here.

So if you’re a user of, or general follower of CoehlUI, why not spend a little time with me and my buddies on our podcast, The Faceroll Show? You can also find us on iTunes. We’re going to be doing episode 5 on Sunday, so look forward to that.

We’re having  a blast and hoping to build ourselves a little bit of a community. Anyway, see you guys there.

Released CoehlUI 2.0

These changes took forever to actually get ready to ship out, and they were really extensive, so I decide to say “Sod it” and called it 2.0. The file is already uploaded to WoW Interface, so please click the link up top for “Downloads” and go get it.

You’ll notice that it now includes Recount and Omen instead of Skada, and it will also remedy the problem that a lot of Mac users were experiencing.

If your resolution divides to 1.77, this version also will work for you.

Thank you for using this UI and enjoy.

Mac Users, an Update

We’ve found the source of the problem. An update should release later today in the form of CoehlUI 1.5.

Additionally, the aesthetic changes will be pushed out with it making it a long standing release.

Also, I had some very serious problems with Skada last night and have spent this morning replacing it with Recount and Omen. For those that were wanting this, it’s incoming.

If you’re curious, we had a mage pushing over 10k DPS on Sartharion 3D last night and Skada reported that he had 1.3k DPS because he died right at the end. Other users in our guild of this UI were having much different results, and the bottom line is, I want some consistency.

Hey Mac Users

Yup. I know. The UI is crashing, usually when loading the coehlui profile in KgPanels whether by way of Reflux or manually. I’ve seen a good number of example crash reports and they all seem to be getting ‘sploded by different things.
There are a lot of threads coming up on the WoW forums in regard to Mac crashes. So it seems to me that this UI, which uses a substantial amount of images in KgPanels, is only picking at that wound, not causing it. (Hopefully)

See here

I have had some conversations with Kagaro, the author of KgPanels and Reflux, and as a Mac user himself, he’s also suggested we be mindful of 10.6 and the changes that it introduced, for example, OpenGL changes. Though it does seem my scripts aren’t playing terribly friendly with 10.6 either.

Some things you can do:
Try logging out and hanging out somewhere other than Dalaran. May I suggest setting your hearth to the Argent Encampment just outside Dalaran?
Turning down player textures (and other video settings if you can spare them are worth trying).
Disabling KgPanels has been confirmed to allow you to login, most of the time. That will suck though. That’s this UI’s main dish.

Please do not hesitate to stop by the CoehlUI forums and report new information regarding all of this. I have absolutely no intention on giving up helping the Mac users that want to use CoehlUI. I am a Linux lover myself, so I get it.

Error reports screenshots, whatever. Stop by.

CoehlUI 1.2, For the Shamans

And yes, “Shamans” is proper for the plural of Shaman. Anyway, the totem bar in 1.1 was jacked up and I failed to check that out on my Shaman character. Caught it this morning, went through the fix and thought I’d share pronto.
If you play a shaman and haven’t performed this fix yourself yet, go ahead. All you really need to do (if you don’t want to go about a whole new install) is copy the bartender .lua files into your account’s SavedVariables and restart the game. The base Reflux profiles (coehlui, coehlui0.663, coehlui0.708, coehluigloss, and default) will have correct locations for this bar.
