We jumped into the realm of video and while we found that there are many kinks to be worked out, it’s a fair start. We’re reviewing a few other pieces of software to try out for the upcoming shows, and we can pretty safely guarantee that some of our newer ideas will not disappoint. Our next experiment will be the use of camera views of the hosts while discussing various topics, and playing the game during BWE 3. A podcast and gameplay commentary mixed together for a special sweetness. You hear that RO squad? Best be ready.

What profession/race did you play? How far did you get and what did you do to get there. Storytime!
Which things did you not get to try, whether by technical limitation or time constraints that you wanted to do?
How does Guild Wars 2 square up against other MMO’s that you’ve played?
What are your thoughts on the reaction of the populace to the game, now that the NDA is lifted?
How well do you expect Guild Wars 2 to do as compared to, say, Rift, SWTOR, and other MMO competitors of late? Which differences do you see that might grant GW2 more success?
Cash shop impressions, value as a business model. Will it be profitable?
Did the promise to put the holy trinity behind us appear to come true? (Interesting Reddit post regarding this)
What have you found yourself doing, mostly, while you wait for GW2? Many people that played GW2 find themselves incapable of playing other games and enjoying it. Should there be a term of this phenomenon, or is there one? (Beta tester’s remorse?)

Sequel Scuttlebutt
Jonathan Sharp talks about underwater combat
Jon Peters and an underwater combat video

Key features:

breath meter (there isn’t one)
underwater weapons – trident, spear, harpoon gun
underwater skills
z-axis – skills and drowned state (drowed state creating incentive to go underwater when low on health)
amphibious enemies – change behaviour on land/underwater
dynamic events
underwater towns (and underwater areas in cities e.g. LA)
underwater minions (Ranger has amphibious pets)

Speculator’s Corner

underlying concern with a lack in variety of skills (access to only 2 weapons – 1 for ele and engineer)
the range issue with melee characters and the z-axis
Ambience. They’ve got a deepening thick blue like water tends to have, if you’ve done scuba, you see that the plants are extremely well done, and even the ambient sound is just like being underwater.
Dodging works underwater also
Skills that sink enemies
If you like aerial combat, understand that a good portion, maybe half, of this game is underwater and there’s little functional difference between aerial and underwater combat. This just rationalizes it better.

Relics of Orr is switching to a new schedule. The same show that you’re used to will now be delivered bi-weekly, and the main host may vary at times. However, on the weeks wherein we do not release a show, we will be accepting audio projects of any sort that the community is willing to send to us. We will mash them all together for an overall podcast episode that is built by you, the community (and our freelance work as well). You can get together with friends, do skits, or solo it.
Recommend you use Audacity, Skype, and CallGraph.
We look forward to hearing from you, and the community looks forward to it too.
The show will return to some sort of a regular schedule again once GW2 releases.

Protips
New update
Chaz makes a fuss about Guild Wars and Ryan is schooled on the difference between Test Krewe and Live Krewe.

Transcript
- Would you say that Embark Beach is likely to cater to existing players or new players

- mostly quality of life improvements
- changes for existing players
- changes touch tutorial areas for new players

What’s going on with Presearing

- Captain Langmar reappears as Lieutenant Langmar
- 9 new daily quests in presearing
- Scale their difficulty & loot based on player level (3 tiers)
- Makes LDoA easier and makes it more logical without devaluing the achievement
- Added Kimmes the Historian to dedicate up to 5 titles if you have HoM access on your account

What’s changing with titles

- Survivor title no longer requires 0 deaths on the character to be achievable
- Aims to make survivors more group friendly and remove the stress from the title
- Drunkard works like Sweet Tooth and Party Animal
- System was too complicated and not ideal to ask people to give up 7 days of their life for the title
- The drunk effect won’t go away though
- When people are trying weird work arounds to get over an issue, its something that needs to be addressed

How will Embark beach effect commuting

- 4 npcs on the beach that will take you to any of the mission outposts on the continent
- Central hub for anyone who’s looking for something to do or trying to achieve something
- Eliminates having to go through an outpost that’s a different party size which may split the party up
- Additional NPCs in the areas around the travel NPCs for services
- Any place the beach can send you to, there’s a Zaishen scout that can send you to Embark Beach
- Added Zaishen vanquishes to Embark beach
- Added missing quests from Zaishen Bounties and Missions

How does that look in terms of UI

- Talk to the NPC
- Broken by region, then to outpost
- Similar to the quest log

Will we get to add 7 heroes to our party?

- Yes
- First time [ArenaNet] spoke about this was the first time we talked

Is it only possible to add 7 heroes in Embark Beach?

- No, you can do it wherever you can add heroes already
- Restricted flagging because its not appropriate for a single person to micromanage an entire team
- First 3 heroes have their own flags
- Last 4 will follow the all
- Gives advantages to bringing real people in the party

Will we see any new heroes, storyline and lore in Embark Beach?

- There is a little story
- Zaishen are taking a greater role in the world due to the greater threat in the world
- Zaishen are encouraging people to work together to beat those threats
- More to come in Winds of Change
- More of a functionality patch than a lore one

As far as the UI goes, [...]</itunes:summary>

I’m joined by Tasha with Split Infinity Radio and Tigerfeet with Secret Agent Cat to make an episode. By brute force. And we spoke of nothing GW related. At least we meant to do it that way, this time. Windows 7 did not play friendly with Tigerfeet’s mic, but Csquirrel came through for us and adjusted the call in a fashion that had to have been extremely tedious. Big thanks to him.
We don’t expect to be releasing episodes when there’s little GW related news to talk about in the near future. I hope to have a mini show (per Louden’s recommendation) for the holidays, but otherwise, expect a downswing in our activity in regard to Relics. I intend to use the forums to keep people posted on when we have intent to do a show while things are slow.

Crafting in GW2, also known as “disciplines”. So to players of other MMO’s out there, you don’t have classes but professions instead. And you don’t have professions but disciplines instead. Are we clear? That sucks.

Speculator’s Corner
Oculus Sinister asks
1) Will there be an achievement system? IMO most likely. Will they do anything innovative there? Probably not.
2) Why have they been so quiet about their PvP and GvG? Think they have some amazing new concept to unveil or will it be more of the same? I think that GW’s pvp is among the best in MMOland and pve their weakpoint. All their emphasis so far has been to address changes in the game that fix pve weaknesses of the original GW and other MMOs.
3) MMO manifesto video on http://www.guildwars2.com: did anyone else hear Colin’s voice crack twice during his shpeal? Could he be going through puberty a second time? Could Guild Wars 2 be so amazing that this is a potential side effect and will the FDA have to step in and issue Guild Wars a block box warning?
Shepard Book asks about the next profession reveal, release date speculation, and expansion release models.
Matteo Vittoria asks
1) With the removal of the click to move system in Guild Wars 2, I can only assume that clicking results in a standard attack and in this the only way of auto attacking is to right click your first skill. Here lies my question, if I run out of energy/mana does my character stop auto attacking or only attack when he has the energy? I realise that this is hard to speculate on without actually seeing in game but I figured you guys would have more experience and knowledge in this area.
2) As a warrior I feel my role as the parties’ first member into combat dismissed as we now in Guild Wars 2 see other professions take on a more frontline role. In this lies my problem, do you think that stationary professions such as the Warrior are going to be ignored for more agile professions such as a ranger, especially because there is no body blocking in Guild Wars 2 and the role of the tank is effectively gone with the removal of the MMO trinity.

It should be emphasized that the demo was a showcase for the game and many of the things could have been accentuated to be more ‘showy”
As far as elites, I’ve always wanted the elites to be ‘elite’ versions of normal skills (like prot spirit 10 sec…10% reduction and the elite Shielding Spirit 16 sec and 16% reduction)
The Shatner is a GREAT name (thanks Tiger Feet!)…Although…I’m getting a good vibe from “Krack-at-the-court”.
Following Tasha’s was seems to work well for me when I’m helping others who are lost. Have them look ober their map while you are looking at Wiki. Ask them about towns they have until you get to one that they don’t have…take a step back and look to who gives the previous quest…and who gives the reward. You should be able to find out where they are quickly.
Boobie soft? really? Nice addition to the dynamics of the show
Another greatand informative show…Keep up the good work!

Good evening gang
I am just catching up with my correspondence and found this collection of thoughts that I meant to send after episode #11, but forgot. I blame old age This is mainly a question for Tasha, but all feel free to chip in. Tasha’s thoughts on playing Ranger in the demo at Gamescom were quite interesting, particularly the section on her pet being unresponsive. Of course, this is a common complaint by the GW1 community as well, so I wondered if Tasha plays beastmaster much in GW1. I love my pets and play with them often, particularly farming Totem Axes and Shards in the Wailing Forest in FoW (mainly for fu), is an effective way to learn and hone pet control skill. Personally I feel that pets get bad press because players just don’t understand pet mechanics (I am not suggesting this applies to any of you).
Well, as the pet is an integral part of the GW2 Ranger’s character mechanic, it is obviously of no use if the pet is actually unresponsive. In GW1, the two main causes of pets appearing unresponsive are (in my opinion)
1) Out of aggro, the pet must be explicitly ordered to attack a specific target via pet control panel and skill usage. They will not attack out of aggro unless both conditions are met, if both conditions are met, they will attack instantly from flatbow range or a shade outside.
2) Pets, annoyingly, can stand around amidst the enemy, in which case they are body-blocked, or blocked by a terrain feature (no body-blocking in GW2 so that won’t apply, though terrain blocking will I assume).
Thoughts from the floor?

I started listening to your podcast a while ago, then I discovered that I have an alter-ego in Chaz (I’m also studying accounting, my name is Carlo = Charles = Chaz and I do all the crazy notepad BU accounting stuff he does when selling things on Gw…), and that is how my addiction started.
Yesterday I listened to Tasha’s I believe FIRST in-Gw SHOW on air on SI Radio and actually chatted a little with her, she’s lovely, and owned a nice Hide & Seek game in Gw which was great!!!!
(Never played it before, thought it was kinda stupid but when you actually start getting into the teleport frenzy it’s so much fun!)
After the show I had a very nice Zbounty quest + domination in the craziest zone (full of bridges, up & downs…jeez) with Chaz whose heros has some supernatural GPS Ability…and in him I found a really good player! We owned that area accounting-style…
This is my experience so far with you guys and since I’m enjoying it so much I’ve decided to write this mail ^_^
Show’s Great! Love it, actually the Europe/Canada/Usa mix works nicely, Tasha has the nicest accent (even if she told me she prefers USA’s one lol), Secret Agent Cat blog is awesome and Ryan has some speaking frenzies and jokes which are just hilarious ^_^
I’d definitely love to meet you guys all in Gw and experiment an elite area together or some random PvE….it’d just be great!!! (IGN Ubi Maior)
After all this boring stuff about how much fun I’m havin with you guys and bla bla bla let’s write something usefull such a debate idea for your show:
a topic that I’ve always cared about but it’s not as popular as I’d like to, is the fact the MMOs actually come from D&D…which comes from the desire of people who are into Fantasy to actually BE into a Fantasy adventure as a protagonist.
If you think about MMOs as games based on Fantasy literature, game mechanics then become a set of rules and choice options that yes, allow a game to be playable, but also have to keep the “spirit” of Fantasy books into the game.
Nowadays a lot of great MMos have game mechanics that focus more on the “awesomeness” of moves and battles rather than making the game “fantasy acceptable”.
Gw2 on the other hand has a really strong “story” and “make you feel like a [...]</itunes:summary>

Rob Alden asks
Hey there I love the show! I know there are no official system requirements known for Guild Wars 2 yet but I was wondering what you speculate the requirements might be?
The first Guild Wars System Requirements:
Minimum system specification
* Windows Vista/XP/2000/ME/98
* Intel Pentium III 1.0 GHz or equivalent
* 512 MB RAM
* 3 GB available HDD space
* ATI Radeon 8500 or NVIDIA GeForce 3 series video card with 64 MB of VRAM
Recommended system specification
* Windows Vista/XP/2000
* Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or equivalent
* 1 GB RAM
* 4 GB available HDD space
* ATI Radeon 9600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 series video card or above
Based on games out now though it seems like the recommended requirements might barely be the minimum specs for GW2? Or will they be scaling down there specs to something more along the lines of the first Guild Wars?
My Specs are listed under this but even now my graphics card is on the mid to low scale when it was on the high end when I first bought it a year or two ago. On the Windows Index scale my graphics/gaming graphics are at a 5.3/5.5
Windows 7
Intel® Core™2 Duo T9800 2.93GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 2GB – SLI® Enabled
320GB 7,200RPM
Will I be able to run the game on my computer with full detail and settings maxed out? If not what do you think I should change? Someone mentioned a cheap $109 XFX ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB DDR5 DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card HD567XZNF3 But I don’t even know how I would go about installing it since I’ve been using Nvidia on it. It’d probably break lol
And Phillip Broomhall asks
Hi guys and girls reading this, I’ll admit I have only just this past week listened to the latest Relics of Orr podcast (#11) but am steadily making my way through any that might have information about Guild Wars 2 that I myself may have missed.
In episode 10 of the Relics of Orr show you all talked about the dynamic events system as well as breifly talking about dungeons. I was just wondering whether you think ArenaNet will likely throw some dynamic events in the game which will unlock and also prevent access to various dungeons, so for example.
Dungeon A is currently heavily guarded by a huge force of centaur.
A dynamic event starts where players are tasked with taking out the centaur general in charge to weaken the moral of the remaining force.
- Upon defeating the general in charge the remaining centaur forces retreat to Dungeon B.
This allows players to explore dungeon A, however Dungeon B will now be cut off and inaccessable to players until a new event which will see the centaur pushed away again, thus unlocking access to Dungeon B but preventing access to Dungeon A.
I hope the example above wasn’t too confusing, so what do you think? Is this something ArenaNet may do to give players a choice in which dungeon they want to explore.
Togo’s Soapbox
I thought Guild Wars was an MMO, but this sure doesn’t feel like an MMO. What’s up with all this instancing?

Tasha (Split Infinity Radio) and I talk about her visit to Gamescom 2010 last week in Cologne, Germany. She tells a lot of things that may not be as easily discerned from second hand footage, such as some small issues that the demo still had, the absolutely pro nature of the dye system, as well as considerations and observations of the newly announced necromancer profession.

First off…nice show…
1. So healing is nice…but, for the team, prot is better. I play a monk more often than not (I, too, like to feel needed) and healing your team is a re-active thing…once they take damage you try to heal them up. Protection, however can be used proactively to mitigate the damage in the first place. Most groups look for HB or UA monks (for different reasons) but fail to see the advantages of having a prot monk in the group: a) makes the healing more manageable for the other monk (if there is one) b) negates or reduces damage taken in the first place so spikes are less effective on individuals/team c) can focus on one player if the game circumstances change and someone needs to be more of a ‘tank’
I made my monk for the same reason as the others…was a RANGER and groups were always waiting around for monks. But as Tiger pointed out…there are PLENTY of bad monks out there (people who have a warrior mindset…especially). It would help if people remembered that this is a ROLE playing game…and the role you choose should be one that you are willing to play.
As an evil side note…even now, healing is the responsible of all players in the party. If you are a front line guy and getting pounded, retreat is your responsibility and give the monk time to heal you. Healing the party is the monks job…not focusing on one bozo who bleeds like a stuck pig but refuses to fall back…then blames others for his failure as a player.
AND…you didn’t start playing a monk with the hope of it carrying on…don’t be a quitter
2. Rangers – People who don’t play rangers usually don’t understand what a ranger is supposed to be. Rangers, like other professions should be used to full fill specific roles. People who try to play outside that role are usually disappointed … and disappoint their team … and perpetuate bad attitudes towards rangers. Rangers are ranged players who are not primary damage dealers but condition dealers/spreaders … natural spirit users … Splinter (although splinter is better utilized by a Rt) among a few others…again…a role…
3. Why do we have to change the name of Guild Wars? GW and GW2 is simple enough
4. The manifesto video rocked and keeps the hype going strong (Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome …Tina Turner…gotta remember that!!). More recently revealed in the Gamescom videos, we will have necros (as everyone expected). Also, Horia Dociu pronounced his name ‘do-chew’.
MAYBE (specualtion alert) the dynamic events will wax and wane. Centaurs attack a village…if we [...]</itunes:summary>

Guild Wars Awesome
- What is the status of GVG changes?
- What is the status of the dervish profession review?
- With GW2 on the horizon, this will likely result in a smaller player base in GW. Is the interest in allowing players to bring more heroes affected by this in any way?
- Can we look forward to any new weapons?
- Will there be any new consumables?
- Will we see a paragon profession review?
- After the release of Guild Wars 2, what sort of nomenclature will you use to refer to the prequel. Guild Wars Classic, right?
-Last October the live team introduced a set of quests to the Halloween celebrations that changed the Underworld. How likely are we to see further updates to the various holiday celebrations compared to the addition of new content to the game?
-Pie or Cake? (Sorry, they melvin’d me)
For players of the game Guild Wars, it’s highly recommended that you listen to this. Knowing what’s in the mind of this man will probably put you in a feeling of anticipation. He’s driven, and he didn’t fluff anyone (though I did do some fluffing).
Stop in for a listen. After the interview, also, Chas and I went a little crazy based on some inspiration from the interview and we figured you guys might enjoy it.

Ben with Relics of Orr
Hey Gang,
To start I must say great podcast. It is really refreshing to listen
to such a well produced podcast that covers GuildWars 2 news, while
still having contributing segments and content about GuilWars 1. Yes
1, Arenanet says so!
My question is how you think GW2 will handle finding groups with
random players.
I really hope, they find a way to follow Blizzards “Looking for
dungeon” system in World of Warcraft. If there is one thing that WoW
has done right it is hands down the “Looking for dungeon” system.
While the party number above players heads in mission outposts
combined with auto-invite and search menu is nice. It certainly is not
perfect. This system has lead to personal frustration of people not
understanding what HM means and trying to go along with me while not
having access to HM. No frustration is great then wasting 25mins in
and outpost trying to find a group when I could be working on
secondary quests instead.
They are giving us the auction house so we don’t have to sit in trade
staring at our screens like zombies. Now help us with missions!
Has something been said about this and I just missed it? What do you
all think Arenanet will do?
One last thing, Guildwars 1 Guildwars 1 Guildwars 1
Ben aka Epic Wind in game.

Hi guys,
Love the show, yadayada (everyone else already said what ever I could say, so I’m mixin it up that way)
Straight to the point… In regards to the Guild Wars 2 chat, which according to anet will be available to chat out of game, do you guys have any idea if there will be an Android or iPhone client for the chat? If not, did they mention anything about releasing the api, so that I can write my own app? It would be awesome to keep in touch with my buddies on my android phone, whilst in the bus etc.
If you guys don’t have any of this info, who should I email to find out?
Regards,
PS: No Really, love the show!

- NPC gear accessible by players
- Dye system gonna be muchos better, with more than one place per piece of armor to apply dye (Holy @#%#), and a focus on dye’s behavior on specific materials.
- All races can be any profession. Period.
- GW2 is Tyria focused
- No point and click control, more ease focused
-80 is the level cap but the level up increments are evenly spaced.
- Humor is coming back. It’s an honor to fight by my side.
- No heroes and henchies but there will be allies to control in other fashion (Gaki?)
- Reconnection issues have been reworked.
- Full on and heavily integrated voice acting. Where do I apply?

“Just FYI- on the Cost of Persistance vs Instanced, I don’t recall where, but they have expressly said that the reason that GW1 was instanced had little to do with cost. They indicated that they have developed a model that is much easier on servers than most people think, and that the difference in maintenance cost will be minimal, which is why they can stay with a no-subscription model. I will try to look for the source, but I know they have explained it somewhat.”

Speculator’s Corner
-Thanks to an email from The Grim Cow, we touch on a topic ill addressed. Utopia, the unseen fourth campaign that was replaced by EotN. It was going to bring about Chronomancers and Summoners. Will these two professions possibly be what we’ll see in Guild Wars 2? Or will they be related to that?

I am listening to you guys talk about what might become of the necro. A while ago I came across something called Guild Wars: Utopia. Guild Wars Utopia is the name of the canceled campaign four, which was later adapted into Eye of the North. In Utopia were two supposed classes called chronomancers and summoners. I think these are the two mysterious classes everyone is wondering about.

- Mounts. Will these happen? Will they be necessary? Were some of the vehicles in GWEN an experimentation in Guild Wars’ own flavor of mounts?

A Sylvari Necromancer cropped up in Ghosts of Ascalon. Since this novel is supposed to take place as an interim story between GW and GW2, is this an indication of necromancers returning on the whole?

Trevor couldn’t join us today, but no worries, we were joined by Astara’s excellently British husband, Kal Agrim. We accidentally did more profession speculation, as one should expect of any healthy Guild Wars fan site, and we discuss the missed potential of Vekk’s voice actor Maurice LaMarche in GW:EN. Hopefully, we’ve put Felicia Day (happy birthday by the way) to better use as her female Asura role in Guild Wars 2.
We discuss how good looking our current characters are. My wife and I obviously pwning everyone else.
This is our uber shiz.
But Astara does put up a fight with one of the most awesome screenshots available from the original Guild Wars.

That's Louden Swain. Dead.
Anyway, on with the show.

We speculate on whether or not we’ll see monks, healers at all, tanks, and necromancers. We had a lot of fun despite how hot my car got. But also, at the end, you can hear an interview that Astara had with some ArenaNet devs at PAX last September. We usually shoot for an hour long show, but this stuff was too good. It’s really thorough. Seriously, these guys really love their work.
It’s important to note that you Guild Wars podcast listeners shouldn’t stop at our show. There’s an entirely different show and cast over at Guild Cast’s website. Shawn did almost 100 episodes during the height of the popularity Guild Wars had, and he’s very seasoned at it. So it ain’t no sippin’ tea. I look forward to seeing what he will bring to the Guild Wars 2 community in the coming months.

-Dynamic events and the death of quests (and there was much rejoicing)
-Traits
-Quips will be toggleable, but they also won’t happen often. It was just in the videos for effect.
-Mobs will not be one shottable. Video effect again.
Speculator’s Corner
-There may be a lack of emphasis on healers, thanks to Hunter from Hunter’s Insight. But there will be support professions and healing capable schools at the very least.
-Similarly, it’s been confirmed that there will be no taunt system. Probably safe to assume no threat table. Will tanking in GW2 be like it was in GW1 (location based)?
-Thanks to Shaun from the Conjure Phantasm blog, there’s been some good news for Necromancer hopefuls.
However, if this is the case, then it doubles back to the idea of there being no monks. OMGWTF MIND BOTCH KGAIS
